History & Representation

  • The Utah Ophthalmology Society (UOS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1979 to promote and advance the science and art of medical eye care.
  • Current membership is approximately 171 physicians and residents in ophthalmology.
  • The UOS has been named a "Model State Society" by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has received the Academy's "Special Recognition Award" for political action and public affairs work.
  • The UOS provides continuing medical education programs to members.
  • The UOS provides representation to various legislative, regulatory, and associative bodies, including:
    • U.S. Congress
    • Utah Legislature
    • Utah Department of State Health Services
    • Utah Education Agency
    • Utah Department of Public Safety
    • Noridian Medicare and Medicaid Services
